Job Description – After-School English Governor (Chelsea)

Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 15:00–18:00/19:00 (approx. 12 hours per week). Friday not required.
Proposed start date: As soon as possible.
Salary: £20–£25 per hour.

An after-school English governor is sought to create a consistent English-speaking environment and to take full responsibility for homework supervision and academic support. This is a structured educational role rather than a play-based position.

Duties include school collection in the Chelsea area (school within approximately a 20-minute walk; no driver required), completing all homework with the child, explaining unclear topics, monitoring deadlines, supporting reading, writing and maths where required, and ensuring work is completed to a high standard. The role also involves establishing strong homework discipline, organising 30–60 minutes of active play or a walk, reading in English, and developing conversational English through daily interaction.

The governor will focus exclusively on homework, spoken English and overall academic development.

Contract: One-month trial period initially, with the intention to continue until the summer (approximately 5–6 months), subject to successful collaboration.

Preferred profile: native English speaker (British accent preferred), energetic, structured and responsible, with experience working with primary school-aged children. The candidate must be able to explain school material clearly, hold a valid DBS, and ideally have a background in education or psychology with tutoring experience and strong references.
